Information U6-U8

Players need to be aged appropriately for that age group ie as at 31 December (at the commencement of the season) if the child is aged 5 years, then you are able to play in the U6 competition – (this means your child is turning 5 some time during that season).  Proof of age is required ie passport or birth certificate. There is an option for a younger child to play in the U6 age group, provided that the child is mature and turning 5 within season. For example a 4 year old who turns 5 early within the year.

The competition takes place on a Saturday morning at Lister Street on the Sunnybank High School fields and is played as an internal competition (in house with other teams from within our club).  Game times are normally sometime between 8am and 11am, all dependent on the number of teams that have registered for the season.  This competition saves you time traveling between other clubs and fields as the games at this age do not go for very long.

Games are 15 minutes halves (U6) and 20 minutes halves (U7-U8) with a 5 minute break in between the halves.  There are normally 8 players allocated per team with 6 players (including a goal keeper on the field at any one time).  2 players are rotated through by the Coach onto the field.  Sunnybank Saints Soccer Club subscribes to FAIR GAME TIME for ALL PLAYERS regardless of the player’s ability.

The club supplies our own trained referees to save you as a parent or a coach having to referee the game. There are no extra game fees to be paid each week.

The draw for the current season can be found here.

Training for this age group is only 1 day per week for 1 hour and may be either at the Sunnybank, Brittain Park or Calamvale fields.  Preference for training this age group is in the afternoons from 3.30pm till 6.00pm (age appropriate) and after agreement with your coach and club management (depending on the number of teams and times available).

When forming U6-U8 teams, preferences will be given for returning players (previous season only) to return to their previous season team (friendship group) up until initial close of registration (ICOR) and subject to clause 6.0 (Team Composition)Returning players (previous season) failing to register by ICOR may not necessarily be returned to their previous season team (friendship group) if numbers have been filled.

Coaches and Managers – Sunnybank Saints Soccer Club uses volunteer Coach and Managers. This enables us to keep costs low and means that at least one parent is required to be the coach of the team and likewise one parent is required to be the manager of the team.  A team formation day is held prior to the season were the members of the teams are announced along with the coach and managers.  Should we not have any persons nominate then one will be nominated on the day (this normally is not a problem as there is always someone wishing to coach and manage in most teams).  If you are interested then indicate on the registration form when you are registering if you are wishing to coach or manage a team.  There is A LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENT to hold a Blue Card if you are the Coach or Manager of the team your child is in.  All committee members hold current Blue Cards.

For position availability and further information, please contact the U5-U8 Registrar (see Contact Us). Please remember we are all volunteers and if we dont answer the phone immediately leave a message or send a txt message.
